  About Me

Hi, I'm Alfie (that's my picture above). I was born on December 16th 2001 and I have Down's Syndrome. My brother Harry (does not have Down's Syndrome) was born 2 minutes after me and , so he is my younger twin brother! The odds of me having Down's Syndrome and Harry not, is actually 1 million to 1 and that's official! Me and Harry are the youngest in our family. We have a sister, Neesha 21 and brothers, Archie 17 and Charlie 13. We have a noisy time in our house and my Mum and Dad are always busy looking after us.

When I was 1 day old, I had to have an operation because my tummy had a blockage (Duodenal Atresia), so my food could not go through. It's ok now. And I've got a really cool scar on my tummy.

I also had 5 holes in my heart, which have started to go away. I think the doctor man said to my Mum and Dad that there is just one hole now.

I started to walk at around 3 years old, but can't talk yet. I do say some little words that sound a bit like proper words. I sometimes say "hugga" for hug and even say proper words, but don't seem to ever say them again. I like to wave bye bye and have cuddles with my Mum and Dad. I even like cuddling people who I do not know!

I don't know what I want to be when I grow up, but my Dad says a Javelin thrower because I throw everything across the room, even my food. It makes my Mum cross sometimes. My Mum says I will be a door man at the Ritz because I love to open and shut doors very loudly. I think I won't be a door man, I don't even like Ritz crackers.

Here are my best things and worse things in the world.

  • Cars - I love to play with my toy cars. I have over 100 of these. My favourites are my Brum cars, I have 7 of these! Most have wheels and bits missing as I like to break things.
  • School - I go to The Milestone School which is great. I love my teachers. They are kind to me and give me hugs and biscuits. My teacher is jane and I love her.
  • Bath time - My Dad runs my bath and makes loads of bubbles. I usually have my rubbers cars in the bath, which is great fun. My Mum usually has to dry the floor after and my Dad usually changes his trousers after, because they are very wet.
  • Videos & DVD's - Every morning my Dad gives me my breakfast and then I watch television. I love The Night Garden, Something Special, Brum and the Teletubbies. My favourite right now is The Tweenies.
  • Brum! - I love Brum. He is bright yellow and is a car. I had a Brum toy, but ate some of it so my Mum threw it away and bought me a new one. I ate some of that too, but I have still got it. In fact every time I eat most of the rubber tyres, the next time I see my Brum they have grown back. Weird.  I like to push Brum around the floor. I also push my Postman Pat car around too.
  • Dancing - I like my musical toys and like to move to the music.
  • Custard Pies - I love to eat pies (Tesco are best). I even know how to 'sign' for pie or cake using Makaton. I know some other Makaton words too.
  • Ball ponds - I go used to go to the Spring Centre with my Mum and they have got a big ball pond. But I don't like going out much now, so my dad built me my very own ball pond, it's GREAT!!!
  • I don't like -  cleaning my teeth. My Dad does my teeth every morning and every night and he never forgets. I hate it. I clench my teeth shut so my Dad can't get the brush in, but he always does it anyway.
  • The smoke alarm - This often goes off when my mum is in the kitchen. It reminds me of the alarms I was connected to in hospital, so I cry.
  • I don't like - shopping. I hate the bright lights in the shops and so I cry or whine a lot. My Mum gets stressed out, so when she goes shopping she leaves me at home with my Dad.
  • Reversing noise - My bus makes a beeping noise when it goes backwards. I don't like it, but am getting used to it. Tom and Ann are in the bus and I like them a lot. They are very nice to me.
